Eduard Artemyev (1937–2022) was a Russian composer who became a central figure in Moscow’s early electronic-music avant-garde, working on the pioneering ANS synthesizer built by engineer Yevgeny Murzin. He is best known for scoring Andrei Tarkovsky’s Solaris (1972), The Mirror (1975), and Stalker (1979), the last built from a blend of natural and railroad noise, processed traditional instruments, and synthesizer drone, across a career spanning over 150 films.
