Douglas Hofstadter
American cognitive scientist; author of Gödel, Escher, Bach.
Douglas Hofstadter (b. 1945) earned a PhD in physics before turning to cognitive science, where his research addresses analogy-making, self-reference, and the nature of “I.” His 1979 book Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid won the Pulitzer Prize for General Non-Fiction and the National Book Award, tracing strange loops and formal self-reference across logic, visual art, and music.
