David Borden

David Borden (b. 1938) studied composition at the Eastman School of Music and Harvard University before founding Mother Mallard’s Portable Masterpiece Company in Ithaca, New York in 1969, with the direct support of Robert Moog — Borden was among the first musicians to perform on Moog’s Minimoog. The ensemble’s repertoire drew on the minimalism of Terry Riley, Steve Reich, and Philip Glass, a lineage Borden extended in his own twelve-part cycle The Continuing Story of Counterpoint (1976–87). He went on to found Cornell University’s Digital Music Program, later the Cornell Electroacoustic Music Center.
