Published by English Universities Press in 1959, Cybernetics and Management was Stafford Beer’s first book and the founding text of management cybernetics — proposing that Norbert Wiener’s science of control and communication applied directly to the “science of effective organization,” years before Beer’s Brain of the Firm (1972) formalized the Viable System Model or his Chilean Project Cybersyn put the ideas into practice.
