Library Group
Coil
British experimental group formed by John Balance and Peter Christopherson in 1984, exploring the occult and dark ambient.
Formed in London by John Balance in 1983 as a Psychic TV side project and expanded into a full group with Peter “Sleazy” Christopherson (also a former Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV member) the following year, Coil explored the occult, alchemy, and drugs across a body of work spanning gothic, neofolk, and dark ambient. The group effectively ended with Balance’s death in 2004, closing with The Ape of Naples (2005); Christopherson died in 2010.
