Chu Ishikawa

Chu Ishikawa (1966–2017) was a Japanese composer who founded the industrial music groups Der Eisenrost and Zeitlich Vergelter before scoring Tetsuo: The Iron Man (1989), his first film work, for director Shinya Tsukamoto. Told to build the score from “only the sound of metal,” Ishikawa produced long, dense industrial-percussion pieces that became inseparable from the film’s identity, and went on to score Tsukamoto’s Tetsuo II: Body Hammer (1992), Tokyo Fist (1995), Bullet Ballet (1998), and Tetsuo: The Bullet Man (2010), as well as films by Takashi Miike including Fudoh: The New Generation (1996) and Dead or Alive 2: Birds (2000).
