Founded in 1974 by John Chowning with John Grey, Andy Moorer, Loren Rush, and Leland Smith, Stanford’s Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) became one of the world’s leading hubs for computer music research, growing from the FM synthesis work Chowning had discovered there in 1967.
