Carsten Nicolai (b. 1965), recording as Alva Noto, founded the Noton label in 1994; by 1999 it had merged with Rastermusic (Olaf Bender and Frank Bretschneider’s label) to form Raster-Noton. Working across the border of music, art, and science, he has collaborated widely, including with Ryoji Ikeda as cyclo. and with Mika Vainio.
