Blacet Research
Frac Rack-format modular synthesizer manufacturer founded by John Blacet in 1978, serving the DIY electronic music community.
Founded by John Blacet as Blacet Music Research in 1978 in Lakeview, Oregon, initially selling kit modules to accompany DIY synth-building articles in Synapse and Polyphony magazines. Blacet returned to synthesizer manufacturing during the late-1990s modular revival, becoming the main proponent of the Frac Rack module format originally designed by John Simonton of PAiA. Following John Blacet’s death in 2019, synthCube acquired the company’s assets, intellectual property, and inventory in January 2020.
