A Thousand Plateaus
Deleuze and Guattari's 1980 sequel to Anti-Oedipus, organized as non-hierarchical rhizome rather than linear argument.
Published in France in 1980 as Mille Plateaux, the second volume of Capitalism and Schizophrenia abandons linear argument for a set of largely independent “plateaus” that can be read in any order — a structural enactment of the book’s own central figure, the rhizome, a non-hierarchical network with no single root or trunk, opposed to the tree-like, centered structures Deleuze and Guattari associate with Western thought. Introduces or elaborates concepts including the body without organs, deterritorialization, the war machine, and smooth versus striated space.
